Puig fue a su natal Cienfuegos junto a su esposa, la mexicana Andrea de la Torre, y sus dos hijos Daniel y Damián.

Pero, al parecer sus orígenes tuvieron algo del mundo azucarero, pues compartió fotos relacionados con este sector que, en algún momento, fue una fuente de empleo en Cuba.

En uno de los videos, el cienfueguero nos recuerda cómo se pela una caña en Cuba, de la manera que la mayoría de los cubanos lo hicimos alguna vez: con los dientes.

“Yo no tenía machete, hijo”, dice en el breve audiovisual mientras nos muestra el instante en que pela la gramínea y se la come con gusto.

El video fue grabado cerca de un terreno de béisbol donde entrenó y jugó Puig y del Central “Elpidio Gómez”, conocido anteriormente como “Portugalete.”

El Portugalete, fue fundado el 27 de octubre de 1873, por el emigrante español Sotero Escarza Urioste, que le puso este nombre en honor a su pueblo natal.

Hasta allí fue Puig con sus amigos y su familia. La propia Andrea colgó algunas imágenes, entre ellas una de su hijo comiendo caña de azúcar, solo que este no la peló con su diminuta dentadura.

“Comiendo caña de azúcar y aprendiendo un poco más del lugar del que proviene nuestro Papi @yasielpuig. Este es el campo de béisbol donde jugaba cuando era pequeño”, posteó.

Aquí compartimos el video “didáctico” de cómo se pela una caña en Cuba, aunque el que haya nacido en la Isla sabe de sobra la forma de hacerlo.

We are grateful for so many things this year, but we are mostly grateful for our founder @yasielpuig . When he was a child he nourished himself with raw sugar canes from the fields behind where he used to practice. Raw sugar canes have a a very hard, bamboo-like fiber as a shell, and #66 learned to chew through this hard fiber to get to its sweet core at a very young age.
